plants

Houseplants have been popular ever since the early Greeks and Romans used to bring them in from the outdoors. Houseplants offer benefits, making them more than just decor. They are beneficial to our health so they should never be out of style.

Here are the benefits listed…

  • IMG_3309Using plants in the house decreases the incidence of dry skin, colds, sore throats and dry coughs, since they give out a useful amount of moisture. Research shows that higher level of humidity is good for decreased transmission of the flu virus.
  • Plants help increase oxygen levels, which is good for our bodies. Plants such as orchids, succulents and epiphytic bromeliads, at night take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, so those should be put in bedrooms to keep oxygen flowing.
  • Plants even provide nourishment for the body when eaten, and improve the quality of air in the room.
  • Bringing flowers to hospital patients might be seen as just a display of affection, but they are actually effective in helping patients recover. Not only does looking at plants help them in emotional state, but having plants also lower ratings of pain, anxiety and fatigue, compared to those patients that don’t have plants in their hospital rooms. Another technique to decrease recovery time is therapy that consists of having patients asked to take care of plants. The patients that do this experience a reduced recovery time after their procedures.
  • Plants help you work better. Studies show that studying or working in the presence of plants can have a big effect. Being around plants improves concentration, memory and productivity. It can increase memory retention up to 20%.
