The Power and the Glory

This is real mind-power because through his ability to image and empathize and his freedom to select, man has a measure of control over creation. The subconscious does not originate ideas, but takes information which the conscious mind feels and accepts as true.

These particular ideas are objectified and made part of the real world. By controlling one’s ideas and feelings, one is able to control the subconscious and its ability to objectify or create.

We mentioned that the subconscious is independent of induction. It is also not dependent upon the deductive process where one reasons from general to particular things. In fact, the subconscious is more apt to involve itself in the intuitive mode and thus directly perceive truths and facts independently of any reasoning process.

In connection with this intuitive reasoning process, we can use the term “feeling” in the psychological sense of awareness, or consciousness itself, without regard to thought or a perceived object.

Awareness with emotion, sensation with impression, and understanding with knowing are all operational concepts in the subconscious.

Intuitive feeling is also one manner in which ideas can be conveyed to the subconscious.

Second in a series

The subconscious contemplates a feeling as a fact existing within itself, and on this assumption proceeds to give expression to it. Since the subconscious is non-selective and impersonal, the feeling is impressed whether negative or positive, good or bad. Therefore, it is easy to inadvertently impress the subconscious with concepts or ideas. This is why some people live in an unreal world of their own creation.

The more we entertain undesirable feelings or contemplate wrongs and evils and imperfection, the more we impress the subconscious with these limitations! To paraphrase a familiar saying: What you do not want done unto you, do not feel that it is done.

Every feeling every thought, negative and positive alike, is impressed on the subconscious and, therefore, it must be expressed. The dominant of two feelings is the one expressed. “I am healthy” is obviously stronger than “I will be healthy.” To feel “I will” is to confess that “I am not.” “I am” is a stronger statement than “I am not.”

Remember that your feelings about anything are stronger and dominate what you would like. To work this law, the wish must be experienced as an accomplished state or fact.

Suppressed emotional disturbances can be the cause of both physical and mental disease. Do not dwell upon regrets or frustrations. Think with feeling of the state of health you desire to achieve. Feeling the reality of the state sought and living and acting on your conviction is the way you produce all seeming miracles, and (if you are not careful) all seeming disasters. Job said: “What I have feared greatly has come upon me.”

Chance, accident or predestined fate is not responsible for the things that happen to you. Your subconscious impressions determine the conditions of your world.

Further, the subconscious is not involved with the actual truth or falsity of your feeling. It always accepts as true that which you feel to be true.

Therefore, nothing is impossible to man. To impress the subconscious with the thing(s) you want to have or bring about, you must assume the feeling that you would have if you had already realized this wish.

In contemplating your objective, you must be concerned only with the objective itself. If you dwell on what you consider to be difficulties, barriers or delays, the subconscious accepts these obstacles as part of your request and proceeds to produce them in your world.

Since the outside mirrors the inside, your world becomes filled with adversities. It seems easier to blame our feelings on events in the   world   rather than to realize that the conditions of our world really reflect our feelings.

Nothing comes from without — all things come from within -from the subconscious.

“The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.” “What things soever ye desire when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Gateways to the Subconscious

In general, paths or gateways to the subconscious involve altering ones state of consciousness. Here there are truly many paths to Rome.

Basically, any methodology which results in an altered state of consciousness will involve the establishment of some kind of rapport with the subconscious mind, making it more readily accessible to impressions by the conscious mind.

I will discuss altered states of consciousness that are naturally achieved or which can be learned or programmed in a specific way. This will involve states achieved through meditation and/or relaxation.

In the third and subsequent articles, Dr. Richard E. McKenzie will outline four altered states of consciousness: hypnosis, sleep, dreams and meditation/relaxation.
